Personal knowledge management
How I manage information and knowledge. (Work in progress.)
The scope seems to have grown too broad, as the boundary between knowledge management and an attitude toward life(?) has become blurry.
Managing knowledge and information
- Read books and take notes in my wiki (see Books I’ve read).
- Keep following information in fields that interest me: Feedly, Twitter, GitHub release notes, newsletters, Reddit, Hacker News, podcasts, YouTube, etc. Avoid real-time communities where possible (excessive socializing, unwanted fame, and so on).
- Discover new information in fields that interest me: Google Alerts, Google Scholar Alerts.
- When I discover new information, find a channel through which I can keep following similar information.
- Connect the notes in the wiki to one another.
- Update outdated knowledge:
- Even if I have a familiar way of doing something, search for a better way or discuss it with a LLM.
- Use Deep research to learn about recent developments in things I studied before.
- Look up things I am curious about: search, LLMs, start a Deep research task when I wake up and take a shower while it runs.
- Let my mind wander through all sorts of thoughts in spare moments (before bed, while walking, or eating alone).
- Deliberately go for walks: get off the subway one stop early and walk, or simply take a walk.
- Record fragments of thoughts in the wiki (use the iPhone Action button to capture them quickly).
- Refine connected notes into coherent articles (see Articles I’ve written).
