An email client is more than a tool: it is a habitat.

“

… email is a habitat where people spend much of their working time doing all kinds of things, not merely performing a single task with a single tool.” —Chapter 11, Acting with technology: Activity theory and interaction design

A passage that brings cognitive niche construction to mind.

I watched Avatar: The Way of Water.

• Like the first film, it depicts the Na’vi through the myth of the noble savage.
• Highly intelligent marine creatures receive special regard, while less intelligent ones are speared and killed for fun. A speciesist standard.
• The “communion” between the Na’vi and other species is actually closer to exploitation, enslavement, and objectification.
• The film itself is like a dolphin show. I don’t see the point of the controversy over whether the director enjoyed a dolphin show.
