In As we may think (1945), called a prophetic text that helped bring about the internet and information society, Vannevar Bush asserted that although complexity had long meant unreliability, it was now possible to build complex, reliable machines cheaply. Yet in the twenty-first century, swallowed whole by IT, complexity has once again come to mean unreliability. What a strange world.

What is wrong with my field that we handle complexity so poorly, and why am I creating bugs again today? 😭 Is the problem that people are doing work people shouldn’t be doing?
