Attention
(In Cognitive psychology) Attention.
The explanation in the predictive brain hypothesis
The claim is that the brain has a mechanism for adjusting how much weight to give to its various self-generated predictions and to the sensory information it receives—in other words, how much to trust each—and that attention is the result (see: precision variations). Paying attention to an itchy spot on the back of your hand means assigning a high weight to the sensation of itching received from the fingertips.
