## The explanation in the [predictive brain hypothesis](https://wiki.g15e.com/en/pages/Predictive%20brain%20hypothesis.txt)

The claim is that the [brain](https://wiki.g15e.com/en/pages/Brain.txt) has a mechanism for adjusting how much weight to give to its various self-generated predictions and to the sensory information it receives—in other words, how much to trust each—and that attention is the result (see: [precision variations](https://wiki.g15e.com/pages/Precision%20variations.txt)). Paying attention to an itchy spot on the back of your hand means assigning a high weight to the sensation of itching received from the fingertips.
