Margaret Homans

A professor of English and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies at Yale University, and a feminist literary critic.

In her 1986 book Bearing the Word, she discussed the concept of the absent referent. After reading it, Carol J. Adams extended the concept into an analysis of the intersection of animal and women’s oppression (The Sexual Politics of Meat).
